Meeting with Funji (his geocaching.com name) about planning a large Event cache in northern Ibaraki. There are several caches in the area already, plenty of interesting places to visit while caching, and lodging/camping facilities all available.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,
Josh

今年にエヴェントキャッシュはどうでしょうか?茨城の県北の大子町でいろいろの面白い場所、またはたくさんのジーオカッシュがあります。キャンプ場や町内のホテールでも泊まり安い!

コーメントをどうぞ!

Ibaraki

Hi
I live in Mito and am very new to all this. Found out there are LOADS around Mito/Kasama and am really excited, am going to go out first time this weekend with kids and hope to find our first Cache!
Concerning you planning an event, not sure how well you know Ibaraki but there are also loads of caches in Tsukuba too, and that is now just 30 min and 1,000 yen from Tokyo so you could possibly get more attendees who come for day . Just an idea.
If you plan an event in Ibaraki let me know!

Hi Maria, Nice to hear about

Hi Maria,

Nice to hear about caches in Tsukuba. It's a bit far from Tokyo but probably would be worth it to go visit for a day of geocaching.

Does one need a car though? Or can we get to a lot of caches on foot or using the train?

Hanami

Sorry I posted a new comment instead of reply...

Just login on Geocaching.com. The cache ID is GC23KCZ. Just log your visit as will attend.

Send me an e-mail to my Cachekuni.com e-mail address and I'll send you my keitai e-mail address. I'd love you meet you there!

Josh, can you let me know where I can find details on the Tokyo Hanami event? I'd love to join!

Event

Hey Josh,

This event sounds interesting! I've been meaning to attend a Japan based event and past ones I've noticed were just bad timing. Would love to hear more as it draws closer.

Event Cache

Yes I did mean hanami. I fixed it, thanks! It appears that there will be close to 100 at Tokyo Hanami this year. Hopefully several of those cachers will try to come. Having "enough caches" in the area is secondary to the event, which is a cache in and of itself. Attendees "find" the event, just like any other cache. Having said that, there are several caches already in the area, and I expect to have more in place by the time the event arrives, for those who want to cache before and after. I may try and incorporate a C.I.T.O. element into the event as well.

Did you mean to say 'Tokyo

Did you mean to say 'Tokyo Hanami'? If you're coming down to Tokyo let me know, would be interesting to meet a fellow geocacher.

I don't know much at all about the Japanese geocaching scene but you think you can get 100 people to come? That would be huge in my book. I've never been to an Event cache before but aren't you supposed to put up the caches beforehand? Will you be able to create enough new caches for 100 people? Sounds challenging *and* fun :)

Event Cache

I just met with Funji about it. We talked about that very point. It is accessible by train and also by convenient highway bus from Tokyo station. It is a little ways, but not too far. It's a nice country spot. We're going to tell everyone about it at Tokyo Hanami in April. We're planning for exactly 6 months opposite of hanami in the fall when the leaves are turned, and hoping to get close to 100.

The location has camping and cabin facilities, as well as an onsen. I've lived here for 5 years, and hope to get some prizes for attendees too.

Hmm ... sounds interesting!

Hmm ... sounds interesting! Ibaraki is a bit far and I'd have to come by train but I'm tempted. How many people to do you expect to attend?
